We are delighted to be able to introduce to you our new OTE sponsored athlete, the very impressive Suzie Richards!
Name: Suzie Richards
Location: Leeds (displaced West Country lass, originally from North Somerset)
Mostly found: Running/cycling around Yorkshire in Lycra (preferably where there are hills, love a hill!)
What my boss would rather I was doing: Processing applications from graduates applying for the TeachFirst scheme and providing feedback to those unfortunately not accepted.
Sporting background: I grew up playing a whole range of sports and was fairly decent but never the best. I competed for the county team in Netball, Hockey, Tennis , Athletics and Cross Country. I focussed my energy purely on running while studying at Loughborough University. I ranked 3rd U23, in UK in the 10,000m on the track in 2009 and competing in cross country running, finishing top 50 in the national cross as a senior. I moved to London for my first job and join Herne Hill athletics club, continued running, cross country and road races, discovered some of the runners were also triathletes, bought a bike, entered a Duathlon in the summer of 2011, then a triathlon and the rest is history! I moved to Leeds in October 2011 and joined Leeds Bradford Triathlon Club and attended my very first coached swim session, 2012 was my first proper triathlon season. I have been competing in triathlons and duathlons since and last year won the World age group Duathlon Championships, along with the Slateman, Sandman, Snowman triathlons and Stockton Duathlon. Came 2nd at Dambuster and finished 16th overall in the British Elite Superseries Triathlon Championships. Hopefully this is just the beginning…
Ambition: To be the best Triathlete I can be. Taking away the “Age group” part of my World Champion Title would be nice.
Race Goals for 2015:
- Outlaw Half Triathlon. A podium position would be awesome and a chance to gain a pro licence for Ironman UK.
- Ironman UK, depending on my Outlaw Half result will depend if i start in the pro line up or as an age grouper. It’s my 1st Ironman so realistically aims are to finish in one piece and feel like i gave a good account of myself over all 3 disciplines.
- Retain my Slateman, Sandman and Snowman Triathlon titles from last year.
We are really looking forward to working with Suzie in 2015. Keep an eye out for blogs and race reports coming your way from Suzie over the season. You can follow her on twitter too @suzie_richards
Heres to a fantastic OTE fuelled season!
