Here at OTE Sports anything that brings together our love of cycling, coffee and cake sounds good to us. And Prologue Performance Cycling in Harrogate, North Yorkshire puts a big tick in each of those boxes.
Even on the approach, Prologue impresses as it is set in the ground floor of beautiful old building just a stones throw from the centre of idyllic Harrogate. Bike racks are set up outside in perfect view of the large bay windows, so you can enjoy a coffee whilst keeping one eye on your beloved bike. Straight away it’s obvious; this place is run by cyclist for cyclist.
You enter the café and are immediately met by the smell of freshly ground coffee. The walls are draped with carbon, most notably a number of shiny Cervelos. Dotted in between are cycling prints and the odd retro gem, with cycling literature laid out on the tables for you enjoy. Two large screens are perfectly positioned so bike races, past and present, can be enjoyed by all. You can only imagine the atmosphere in the café on the day of a Classic or Tour Stage, you can see it’s where the cycling community can come together.
The food on offer is simple but affective, a build your own menu allows everybody’s tastes to be satisfied in the form of ciabatta, sandwiches and wraps. All served fresh and fast. A particular mention has to go to the specials menu where you’ll find special themed dishes dependent on the cycling calendar, it’s detail like this that make this place special. The fresh coffee is a reason alone to visit Prologue, it is so good that the secret is out and it is not just cyclist that pop in anymore. In fact whilst we were in there, people were popping in on their mid-week lunch breaks to get a Prologue coffee fix. And where there is coffee, there should be cake right? Well Prologue have definitely got this right. Not just any old cake, but this specifically sourced selection is some of the finest cake in North Yorkshire. Just what you need from a mid-ride cafe stop.
The café has just got it right, it’s cool but welcoming, quality but not overly priced. If it is in cycling distance of you I would start planning your route.
Once you have had your caffeine fix you can venture on through to the attached bike shop and feast your eyes on some high end cycling gear. The staff are friendly and ready to help. There is a fully kitted out bike mechanics room in which repairs, services or custom builds can be done. In fact the shop is like a treasure trove for any keen road cyclist. But the service doesn’t stop there at Prologue, there is much more. They offer bike fits, fitness testing, physiotherapy and sports massage. The shop also has scheduled rides and community evenings. It seems Prologue have successful formed a cycling hub for the people of Harrogate, even more impressive considering they only opened in March 2014.
Thank you to the guys at Prologue for welcoming us. We are excited to supporting their Race Team this year (Check out our Athlete Bio with their young, up and coming rider Julian Varley) who are already racking up some impressive results. And of course thanks for stocking OTE Sports.
