Sweet Treats without the Calories- Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Most of us a partial to a cookie of some kind, especially no accompany a cup of tea or coffee. The problem is, it is all too easy to keep reaching for the packet once it is open. Instead of just having one we often find ourselves feeling guilty after half a packet has disappeared. You can however make cookies with that fuller for longer feeling and here is how. I bring you my yummy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies.


These gooey cookies are around 130kcal, granted this is similar to most of those little cookies you get in packets, but half the kcal of the fresh cookies you get down the bakery aisle. The thing I like about these cookies is because of their ingredients, they are actually quite filling and one is actually enough! Using coconut oil as the fat for the cookie actually gives you that fuller for longer feeling, plus a great taste. Due to structure of the fat in coconut oil it is actually more readily used as an energy source so less likely to be stored in the body. Cooking and baking with healthy fats is the way forward!

These cookies can also be made as gluten free if you use gluten free oats or dairy free if you use a dairy free chocolate bar.



  • 225g Rolled oats blended into ‘oat flour’
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 120g dark brown sugar
  • 60g melted coconut oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 75g dark chocolate chips (you can use milk chocolate, but dark chocolate aids the fuller for longer feeling)


Pre heat oven to 170C

Mix together the melted coconut oil, sugar, eggs and vanilla until well combined, then simply add all the dry ingredients and mix together until forms a thick cookie mix.

Spoon out on to a baking tray covered with greaseproof paper. Aim to make 13-14 cookies from one batch.

Bake for 10-12 minutes and remove and leave to cool.
